There are a lot of people who work in an industry full-time without really knowing all that much about it. Well, for starters, you never know when such information can come in handy and help you stand out in your current position. More importantly, such wisdom can help your case if you want a promotion or to look into a more advanced position at another company. Do some networking
They say that it’s not what you do, but who you know. Of course, this sort of thinking is usually deployed disparagingly. Usually in accusations of cronyism and nepotism. This might put people off of networking. After all, if it helps you get a good job then couldn’t you be accused of getting that job just because you knew the right person? Well, you shouldn’t be so cynical about networking, and neither should anyone else. Build strong business relationships with those in your industry. If you’ve got the talent, then that’s really what will help you get a job. Networking simply allows more people to be aware of that talent.
