What Is SEO
To start with, we need to know what SEO stands for. SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization. What does that mean? Well, it’s a fancy term for talking about how search engines rank your website in their listings. You see, there are probably thousands of websites all related to your business or hobby. Why would you get pride of place at the top of that search list? You wouldn’t. You start off at the bottom with everyone else, and becomes a competition to try and rise higher and higher as you go on.
But how do you beat everyone else? There are many factors involved in SEO, and it’s not as simple as pressing a few buttons. In fact, there are entire companies devoted solely to SEO; such is the importance of it to businesses around the world. Some of these factors include things like putting specific keywords on your web pages to attract Google’s attention. I’m not going to list all the things involved in SEO today because I simply can’t. People are employed on full-time wages to do this sort of thing; it’s not something anyone off the street can do
So, because it’s a difficult thing to learn, you might want to get the professionals to help. We’ve already mentioned that companies are devoted to SEO, and they’ll help you to rise in the rankings. Most of them will focus almost purely on Google as it’s by far the biggest search engine out there. You’ll find that some of the biggest brands in the world hire SEO companies to do their work for them, as they need the experts to help them. It might not be necessary if you’re just running a simple website from home, but business owners should definitely consider it.
If you’re still feeling a bit confused, that’s alright! As outsiders, we’re not really supposed to understand SEO. It’s not a simple thing, so it takes a lot of time to learn and get your head around. You can certainly find plenty of resources to help you learn the basics if you want to. SEO is also constantly changing. What you learn now might not be valid a few months down the line, so you have to continually evolve your knowledge. Don’t worry about that for now, though. You’ve got a much better knowledge of what SEO is, so get online and unleash its potential!
